Victoria's Story

Victoria was a four-year-old when she was enrolled in a residential school. Torn from her family and her First Nation community, this young girl experienced unspeakable physical and sexual abuse. Viewers undergo a range of emotions as Victoria (Elaine Guimond) McIntosh exposes the systematic process of “killing the Indian in the child.” This story of cultural genocide reveals the underbelly of our history and its lasting impact on one victim. Victoria suffered extreme abuse and humiliation under the Residential School system. Now a grandmother and a visual artist, she brings to life her troubled childhood through works of art.
